This Thanksgiving homebrew Cranberry & Lime Lager with beets turned out very champagne like!

We go on some fun tangents in this video into the world of ancient beers and what makes a beer a beer. Watch below!

Key Takeaways:

  • The brew came out to a 5.9% ABV, a tad high for a Lager.
  • This is the first time I solely added something for color. The beets were really key in the very red color. Side note, I also don’t even like beets!
  • The fresh cranberries gave it a bit of a haze.
  • The beer is dry, light and bubbly.
  • For the nose, you can smell the cranberries but you have to get past the beet. I get the lime as well.
  • Jenny’s critique: “If you blindfolded me, this one would stump me. Nothing seems that strong in terms of flavor. It marries very well.”
  • The brew was in the keg for about a week.
  • Next time I brew this beer, I think I would do half the amount of beets I originally used.
  • We went a little off topic and talked best sparkling waters and yes, again, my favorite is Safeway’s Sparkling Black Cherry.
  • And we also discuss ancient beers. If you know the reason why ancient beers that included grapes or other fruits were considered beer vs wine, please let me know. I’m doing a ton of research on the history of beer and I’d love to learn more about it.
